Willie Aames: ‘I Was Dead Broke’

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Former sitcom star Willie Aames went from the lap of luxury to sleeping in public parks.

Like many Americans, the Eight Is Enough and Charles In Charge actor has been enduring extreme financial hardships.

His descent into poverty is shown in Broke And Famous: Willie Aames, a special premiering tomorrow (Nov. 5) on VH1.

After a slew of bad investments and fancy splurges, Aames lost it all.

He was so broke, he was “sleeping in parks and garages,” and didn’t have a home, car, computer, or even a phone.

Aames sold all his possessions to make a quick buck, and admits the process was “shameful.”

However, he’s slowly getting back on his feet.

With mentoring, he recently passed exams to become a certified financial planner and spends all day studying the basics of budgeting.

Aames can tell he’s learning because he can now “hang on to a $5 bill for more than a month” without spending it.
