Design student Lauren McCarthy wants the world to be happy even if it takes brute force, so shes invented the Happiness Hat.
The knit cap has a sensor that sticks to the cheek that detects when a person is smiling. If the sensor feels a frown, the hat sticks a sharp metal rod into the back of the wearers head until they smile again.
McCarthy says smiling is a really simple action that not only affects a persons mood, but also the mood of others around them, so folks should make the effort to spread joy.
Those who dont should be reminded to not be such Debbie Downers, even if takes a little pain.
She admits the hat an exaggerated reaction to sour people, but is still a way for folks to acknowledge their terrible mood and find a way to fix it.
