CAKE Records Album Using Solar Energy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – CAKE’s latest album may be their brightest project to date.

The California rockers known for hits like “The Distance” and “Never There” have been recording their sixth CD using 100 percent solar energy.

Frontman John McCrea and the guys recently had their Sacramento recording studio “greened” with solar panels.

Now, all electricity for their equipment comes directly from the sun, which shines year-round in California.

McCrea says they’re also using recycled paper and vegetable dye for the CD cover and recycling all bottles after jam sessions.

He explains, “We’re just trying not to be such a■■holes.”

He says the environmentally-friendly studio conversion has been a breeze. They no longer have to pay an electricity bill, which is nice.

McCrea figures this is a way for the band to attempt to offset all their years of touring on gas-guzzling buses and airplanes, but notes, “We have a long way to go.”
