Bookshelves Transform Into Coffins

LONDON (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One British designer is helping people bring their bookshelves to the afterlife.

For those who are very attached to their furniture, William Warren has created the Shelves For Life, a bookshelf that turns into a coffin and can serve as its owner’s final resting place.

Warren specially makes the morbid bookshelves in his shop for each customer, or sends detailed instructions to those who want to make their own free of charge.

He admits people get a bit “freaked out” by the shelves since they’re a reminder of death. However, he feels that’s not necessarily a bad thing since dying is the “most environmentally sound” thing people do.

The designer likes the idea of giving a new piece of furniture sentimentality, even if it’s a little darker in tone than Grandma’s old cake platter.

Warren’s own death bookshelf is covered with stains, tape, and dents, which he thinks will give his eventual coffin character.
