Horror Movie Formula No Longer Racist

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Typically, minorities are the first to die in a horror movie, but one black actor is defying that movie mantra.

Arlen Escarpeta – best known for his work on American Dreams – stars in Michael Bay’s revamped Friday the 13th flick hitting theaters February 13.

Escarpeta is the only black actor in the film and makes it almost to the end before falling prey to masked serial killer Jason Voorhees.

Escarpeta insists he doesn’t go down without a fight, and believes his battle scene with Jason is among the best in the movie.

He laughs, “Maybe black characters will be stronger in horror movies now. LL Cool J made it all the way in Deep Blue Sea, so why not?”

But just because Jason is no longer racist, doesn’t mean he’s not scary.

Escarpeta admits he got a “weird feeling” in the pit of his stomach every time he shot a scene with the masked maniac and says making the horror flick was downright “eerie.”
