A Ruined Turkey Is More Traumatic Than Death

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A tasteless turkey can ruin Thanksgiving (Nov. 27) and make the mood so somber, it feels like a funeral.

According to stress specialist Dr. Donald Dossey, “turkeyphobia” is an anxiety disorder people have about baking the Thanksgiving bird.

Symptoms include heart palpitations or tightness in the chest area and Dossey says the phobia happens to those who stress about the turkey being perfect.

He explains, “If it doesn’t come out like Martha Stewart’s, they think they’re a horrible turkey failure.”

Even more bizarre, Dossey says cooking a bland bird can be just as traumatic as the death of a loved one.

That’s because the human body doesn’t know the difference between different types of traumas and reacts to all traumas in the same way.

However, Dossey says there’s hope for turkey chefs, and it starts with giving up on being a perfectionist.

As Dossey puts it, “Who cares if a leg gets burnt? The guests won’t care much and neither will the turkey.”
