Japanese Cause Massive Banana Shortage

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A massive banana boom is sweeping Japan and it could lead to a shortage of the coveted fruit.

In the past few months, banana sales have risen 70 percent in Japan due to The Morning Banana Diet, a weight loss craze that requires eating bananas for breakfast along with a glass of room- temperature water.

Marty Ordman, vp of marketing for Dole, says he’s never witnessed such banana-mania.

He explains, “People in Japan are rushing to the market to get their bananas before noon every day because after that, they’re all gone! The demand is crazy.”

He believes the tasty fruit is desired because of its many health benefits, including fiber, potassium, and nutrients.

Ordman isn’t sure about the science behind the Japanese diet fad, but vows that Dole will “get to the bottom of things.”

The banana giants plan to conduct extensive research on bananas specifically in relation to weight loss.
