The Wailers Go Hungry To End World Hunger

EDGARTOWN, Mass. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Reggae legends The Wailers are cutting back on their munchies to help end world hunger.

The band – best known for their hits with Bob Marley including “One Love” – have started a campaign called “I Went Hungry” with the World Food Program (WFP), where they’ve pledged to donate the budget from their hospitality riders to Friends of WFP.

Instead of promoters setting up rooms filled with beer and food for The Wailers at tour stops, the band wants them to donate the cash that would’ve gone to their goodies to hungry kids.

Frontman Elan Atias says the band doesn’t need special snacks every day, and was inspired to start the campaign after noticing how much food they were wasting.

He says, “There’s only so much food we can pile into our bus. We don’t need a rider six times a week. We can live off of one and donate the money from the rest.”

Atias hopes other touring entertainers follow suit and downgrade their riders to make a difference.

He says, “Every six seconds a kid dies of hunger. About $35 can feed a kid for a whole year. So one year, one kid, one love.”
