Charles S. Dutton: ‘Actors Have It Easy’

BALTIMORE (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Charles S. Dutton has been on both the directing and acting sides of the movie reel, and he admits: “Actors have it easy!”

Dutton has starred in films like Rudy, Gothika, and Secret Window, and also directed the Emmy Award-winning TV mini-series The Corner, and says directing and acting are two different worlds – one is tough and one is a breeze.

Dutton describes the tedious task of directing films as similar to “washing a giant battleship with a Q-Tip.”

He explains, “Directing is so difficult. It takes a long time to get it just right. That’s why I only direct projects I truly love – I want to be sure I’m in it for the long haul.”

Acting, on the other hand, is a much smoother ride.

Dutton says, “Acting is the easiest money you’ll ever make! You get to go to work, do your job, and not worry about the details. And you get pampered on the set and in your trailer! When you’re the director you can’t stand actors and think they’re spoiled. But I always enjoy acting jobs because good ones are far and few.”

Dutton currently stars in Honeydripper, a film directed by John Sayles and co-starring Danny Glover.
