Stanley Kramer’s Widow: ‘Guess Who ISN’T Coming To Dinner’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Stanley Kramer was a legendary film producer, but he still couldn’t score a dinner date with his widow, Karen Sharpe Kramer.

Stanley produced landmark films like the interracial romance flick Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner, but when he asked actress Karen Sharpe out on a dinner date in 1964, she refused.

Sharpe – who would later become Stanley’s wife of nearly 35 years – was visiting the set of his film Ship Of Fools when the producer first asked her out, and she says rejecting his advances was easy – at first.

She explains, “I never dated people in the industry during that time. But Stanley kept pursuing me, so I finally agreed to a dinner date. And it was a terrible first date! I kept watching the clock, waiting for it to be over!”

But Karen later had a change of heart when a friendly, sweet gesture made her see what a great man he really was.

Karen explains, “I got sick and Stanley brought me dinner at my house every night. Then I realized how caring and loving he was, and I was sold on him!”

Karen went on to produce many films with Stanley. The best of her late husband’s work is featured in a DVD set she just put together called The Stanley Kramer Film Collection, which is available starting February 12.
