Folks Hit The Sheets At The 16th Annual Bed Races

PRESTON, Idaho (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Folks in Preston, Idaho, will be putting some mileage on their mattresses. This Sunday (Nov. 25), the 16th Annual Great “Night Before Christmas” International Championship Bed Race is rolling into town and it’s going to be a wild ride.

The race consists of teams of 10 people, which include eight “pushers” and two “bed riders,” who race down a city block, stopping twice to change sheets, and according to event spokesperson and racer Tracie Ransom, a quick sheet change can get you the win.

She says, “You can cut seconds off by changing the sheets in a certain way. Contenders who aren’t winning have copied us to win, but it’s okay because we copied off another team.”

Competing teams race down the 620-foot track in elaborate themed costumes, and sometimes it can leave them running for the covers.

Says Ransom: “Most of the time we’re running through snow and slush, so it can be a dangerous adventure. The local hospital sponsors the event, so if anything happens, we’re taken care of.”
