Frank Caliendo’s First Time Was With Jay Leno

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Funnyman Frank Caliendo has been doing impressions for years, but the first time he explored his copycat skills involved himself, a mirror, and Jay Leno.

Caliendo – best known for his work on MadTV – is starring in his very own comedy sketch series called Frank TV, in which he showcases his impressions of pop culture icons like Jack Nicholson, John Madden, and Robin Williams.

But Caliendo’s penchant for mimicking can be traced back to a mean Jay Leno impression he did while he was a freshman in college.

Caliendo says, “I had been mimicking teachers and adults for years, but one day, I looked in the mirror, stuck my chin out, and started talking like Leno. I was like, ‘Hey, I can do this!’ It was very exciting.”

Over the years, Caliendo has perfected his Leno imitation, and one time, he almost passed for the skunk-haired host in front of some frantic fans.

He says, “I was filming a show in full Leno make-up and I walked outside and got mobbed by people who thought I was really him. Then they were like, ‘Wait a minute, Jay Leno isn’t that short!’”

Frank TV premieres November 20 on TBS.
