This Saturday (Oct. 27), the 13th Annual Emma Crawford Memorial Coffin Race will be rolling into Manitou Springs, Colorado, where more than 35 creepy caskets will race in honor of the towns most famous resident.
In the 1800s, resident Emma Crawford was laid to rest atop a mountain in town which later crumbled, sending Emmas remains sailing down the rocky slope. Now folks send decorated coffins sailing down the street with a person dressed up as Emma inside.
And according to contest spokesman Floyd ONeil, people go all out, with some even commemorating other famous corpses.
He says, We have a group that depicts celebrities who died within the past year. Last year they did a Steve Irwin coffin. I have a feeling that theyre gonna do Anna Nicole Smith this year.
But be careful with your crazy costumes, because it can cost you a win.
Warns ONeil: The costuming could get in the way. You might have a hard time running in ballerina tutus.
