‘Life’ Actor Brushes Up On His Vocabulary

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – British actor Damian Lewis plays a devoted police detective in the new NBC series Life, and to be a believable cop, Lewis has learned a way with words.

Lewis – best known for his work on the HBO mini series Band of Brothers – says in order to get his Life character just right, he’s been brushing up on his vocabulary, including his American accent and police jargon.

Lewis explains, “When I’m on the set I speak in an American accent all day long, so I can be as close to my character as possible. To learn the procedural jargon, I like to talk to people with real experience, like our S.W.A.T. team guys who guest star on the show. I listen to their vocabulary and hope some of it rubs off on me.”

And Lewis not only has the detective dialogue for the show, he also has the stomach for it.

Lewis adds, “I don’t really get nauseous at the sight of crime scenes or blood on the set, and I haven’t fainted or needed the medics yet. I’m fine – I think I can handle it.”

Life premieres Wednesday (Sept. 26) on NBC.
