Transformers Convention Brings Virtual Friends Together

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – With Transformers gearing up to be a summer smash, fans of the metal-mutators are ditching their armor and getting in on the fun.

That’s because BotCon 2007 kicks off tomorrow (June 28), in Providence, Rhode Island, bringing metal-morphing maniacs together to celebrate all things Transformers.

But it’s more than just grown men playing with toys.

BotCon’s organizing director Brian Savage says, “It’s like a family reunion. People come from all over the world – giant robots transcend all cultures.”

He adds, “A lot of people know each other from chat rooms, and they get here and find they have friends and they didn’t even know their names!”

And while the robot revelers will be surrounded by the fantastic plastic toys, there are limits to how far fans will go.

Not too many people come in costume, because, Savage explains, “It’s a hard costume to make. You can’t sit down for lunch when you’re Optimus Prime.
