No Special Treatment For Phil Keoghan During ‘Amazing Race’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Being the host of The Amazing Race is no walk in the park.

Phil Keoghan says the “assumption that I go shopping and sightseeing while everyone’s racing” couldn’t be further from the truth and admits he’s conducting his own race with the production crew while the contestants are competing.

Says Keoghan: “We’re covering 50,000 miles in 28 days so there isn’t much time to sit around a hotel room.”

In fact, Keoghan admits he’s lucky if he has any down time at all between setting up film shots, staying ahead of the racers or getting through customs.

As he puts it, “We sometimes land after the racers so there’s a huge domino effect if something goes wrong. Once in the Ukraine, I was held up in immigration because I’m the only one with a New Zealand passport and I had to literally run to the pit stop.”

He’s also lost his luggage six times in 11 seasons – making it a challenge to get ready for the camera.

He explains: “I tell my wardrobe person in L.A. if it doesn’t fit in my bag then it doesn’t go – I’m roughing it almost as much as the racers.”
