Actors Get Drunk To Get Into Character

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When it comes to drunken brawls, nobody does it better than the Irish.

That’s the promise that the creators of the new show The Black Donnellys are making to couch potatoes.

The show premieres tonight (Feb. 26) on NBC and centers around four brothers involved with the Irish mob.

Co-creators Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco – the men behind the Oscar-winning movie, Crash – admit that, true to the Irish stereotype, most of the fight scenes result from the characters hitting the sauce.

Says Moresco: “Booze definitely plays a part. Tempers flare a lot in this piece.”

Although the brothers don’t have a booze of choice, Moresco and Haggis say the four actors playing them “drank a lot to get into character.”

As Haggis puts it, “They drank all the time for research purposes...and when they weren’t doing that, they talked to Bobby and his friends about their experiences growing up. However, it’s a fictional world and they ultimately got to make up their own lives.”
