Things Get Hairy When Casting Directors Pick Blond James Bond

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Although the folks behind the upcoming new James Bond flick, Casino Royale, got flack for casting blond actor Daniel Craig as 007, the casting directors insist the choice was a no-brainer.

Jane Jenkins and Janet Hirshenson were responsible for getting the Brit the part and while they say he makes a “sexy and powerful” Bond, they are amazed by the public’s reaction to his blond locks.

The two think it’s because the five previous Bonds were all brunettes and that’s what everyone is used to.

Jenkins points out that if Casino Royale director Martin Campbell was having a real issue he could have “just used hair dye” to solve the problem.

Hirshenson says they auditioned many big stars for the role before finding Craig – including Colin Farrell – and made all of them dress up in tuxedos and hold guns.

Says Jenkins: “They don’t take offense – it’s history and part of the Bond tradition.”

The duo discusses their other casting experiences in a new book, A Star is Found: Our Adventures Casting Some of Hollywood’s Biggest Movies (Harcourt) which comes out next month.
