His real name is Eric Davis and he expects a major clown movement within the next few years.
Says Davis: The 80s had stand up, the 90s had improv adult clowning is going to define this generation.
Davis, whose Red Bastard character spits out wisecracks at his audience, believes his act will really take off because irony and cool detachment have run their course and that its about having a conversation with the audience.
The prankster says he models Red Bastard after the bouffon clowns in France ugly, grotesque creatures who were thrown out of their village but allowed to return once a year to parody the villagers.
As he puts it, Its very hard to balance because it takes a certain wit, charm and intelligence to make the audience feel uncomfortable, yet safe.
Davis will be preforming as Red Bastard during the New York Clown Theatre Festival which begins September 1.
