Thats the ugly truth from pirate researcher Jacqueline Simonds, who has been researching two female swashbucklers by the names of Mary Reade and Anne Bonny for more than 10 years.
She says there is no way these mateys looked like Knightley while pillaging the high seas, especially considering the notorious lack of basic hygiene practiced by most pirates.
Simonds is sure Reade was pretty scuzzy she was often mistaken for a man but speculates Bonny was a bit more feminine.
Regardless of their womanly nature, Simonds is certain that Reade and Bonny would have no problem kicking Captain Jack Sparrows butt ...every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
Simonds has turned her knowledge of female pirates into her novel, Captain Mary, Buccaneer (Beagle Bay Books).
