Ex-Motorcycle Cop Turned Painter-Poet Taught Himself

TOPANGA CANYON, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – In Hollywood, everyone is more than one thing: but Robert Wheeler’s multi- talented job history is highly unique.

Over the years, he’s served in the Coast Guard, worked as an elite motorcycle cop in the LAPD, written two romance novels and worked as a sought-after character actor in Hollywood.

Now, a gallery showing of his expressionist paintings at a swanky gallery in Los Angeles proves he’s not done outdoing himself.

According to Wheeler – who is a self-taught painter who never touched a brush until a decade ago – it’s satisfying to recall how he’s gone from a “laid-off studio gopher in the ’60s,” to a successful cop – and then an actor playing a cop “in more than 70 studio movies and TV shows.”

Which probably makes for a great ice-breaker when you’re invited to lunch with California First Lady Maria Shriver and her “Governator” hubby, Arnold Scharzeneggar – as Wheeler was a while back.

Adds Wheeler: “Not many can say that; I’ve been blessed.”

Wheeler’s paintings will be on display at L.A.’s Infusion Gallery starting July 1.
