Aussie Band The Vines Battles Singer’s Autism On New Record

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You’ve heard the term “mad genius” before, but what if you had to deal with one as the singer in your very popular band?

That’s what folks who’ve had to play with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys have had to do, and now the members of the up and coming Australian alternative rock band The Vines are facing a similar challenge.

Vines’ drummer Hamish Rosser admits it’s not easy dealing with the mood swings and erratic behavior of frontman Craig Nicholls, who was recently diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism.

Says Rosser: “It’s interesting to know Brian Wilson has Asperger’s too, because if you listen closely, Craig’s songs have so much of the same layered, rich melodies of the Beach Boys, one of his favorite bands.”

The Vines’ new disc, Vision Valley, is already receiving critical acclaim and Rosser says that despite his bandmate’s condition, the band is looking forward to touring again.

In Rosser’s words, “Getting Craig to stop smoking pot was a good thing, cause that wasn’t helping his condition or anyone else.”
