‘Bizarro’ Cartoonist Not Shocked By His Hate Mail

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A cartoonist is drawing on hate from all angles for a new stage show – but admits it’s mostly from the Right.

Dan Piraro – who does the liberal-leaning comic strip Bizarro – has just started performing a one-man show called Bizarro Baloney Show and says the main inspiration comes from real-life letters from disgruntled readers.

For instance, Piraro says one of his favorite letters came from a guy he likes to call “Hateful College Redneck.”

In his words, “It’s this southern college student who just lets loose on me with a torrent of hateful name-calling, but ends it with, ‘Well, I’m off to class now.”’

He adds, “That, I really got a kick out of.”

Piraro admits he’s never gotten any negative feedback in person at his performances, but guesses that if one of the authors of his hatemail saw him “crossing the street, he’d probably make it a point NOT to hit the brakes.”
