Kellie Pickler Fostering Respect From Fellow Foster Kids

BOSTON, Mass. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Regardless of how far Kellie Pickler goes in the American Idol competition, she’s still a winner with folks who take care of foster kids.

That’s according to Beth O’Malley, a foster care social worker in Boston. She says Pickler’s openness about being a foster kid is making it easier for others because, she admits, “most kids in care DON’T talk about the trauma.”

There have been other celebrities who were raised in foster care but O’Malley says they usually only talk about the experience when they’re much older.

She says the fact that Pickler is only 19 makes it easier for kids currently in foster homes to see her as one of them.

But while Pickler’s fame is bringing attention to foster kids, O’Malley admits most of the kids she’s spoken with tend talk about American Idol but not Pickler in particular.

She guesses this is because foster kids are used to disappointment and don’t want to be broken-hearted if she’s kicked off the show.

However, if Pickler makes the top three, O’Malley predicts millions of foster kids will be jamming the phone lines to help her win.
