Mardi Gras Beads To Be Bigger And Better Than Ever This Year

MIAMI (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The folks in New Orleans have beads on the brain as they get ready to kick off the Mardi Gras festivities this weekend.

The biggest beads at the event might come from the folks at Bacardi Rum, who plan on stringing together thousands of three- inch-round gold, purple and green beads to make the world’s longest strand of Mardi Gras beads.

Bacardi spokesman Shane Graber says the 7000-foot strand will be completed by February 25, and the last bead will be hung by a surprise guest.

Graber doesn’t imagine anyone will flash them to get the beads, but jokes, “If somebody can figure out how to get this 7000-foot strand of beads home, more power to ‘em.”

Graber has celebrated Mardi Gras in New Orleans several years in a row and gets choked up thinking about how symbolic the event will be this year.

In his words, “Mardi Gras is such a part of the DNA of the city. It would almost be wrong not to celebrate.”
