Dr. Phil Wins Carnie Of The Year

EUGENE, Oregon (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Don’t be hoodwinked by Dr. Phil. He’s just a fast-talking carnie.

That’s according to one man who has awarded Dr. Phil first place in his 2006 Carnie Awards which “honor those celebrities who know there’s still a sucker born every minute.”

Peter Fenton, author of Eyeing the Flash: The Education of a Carnival Con Artist (Simon & Schuster) says Phil wins the blue ribbon because, “He went from a plain vanilla psychologist to having advice on whatever comes along.” In addition, Fenton compares Phil’s CDs, books and other products to when “carnies sold elixirs from the back of a horse-drawn wagon.”

Then there’s cable news reporters Nancy Grace, Greta Van Susteren and Rita Cosby, who Fenton says deserve Carnies because their broadcasts are like going to see the bearded lady at a carnival because it always turns out to be over-hyped.

Finally, Martha Stewart wins third place for being like Barnum and Bailey and turning her release from prison into a “Broadway opening.”
