Steve Guttenberg Out To Legitimize The TV Genre

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Let’s get one thing straight: Steve Guttenberg does not want to get dissed for joining the cast of TV’s Veronica Mars.

The star of Police Academy and Three Men and a Baby laments, “Everyone thinks TV is a second-class citizen to movies. I don’t know why. It’s the same cameras...there are actors, directors and a script.”

Guttenberg says he looks for “a really good piece of writing,” and insists that’s what drew him to his new role as Woody Goodman on the UPN series Veronica Mars.

He calls the series “a cross between Peyton Place, Colombo, and Twin Peaks” and while he won’t divulge whether his character will have an affair with 18-year- old sleuth Veronica Mars, he says, “I can tell you that you will be very surprised.”

Guttenberg’s character will be running for mayor this season and it just so happens the actor is honorary mayor of his hometown of Pacific Palisades, California. He says his duties include “all the usual talent shows and parades,” and admits it’s actually “good training” for his TV role.

The season premiere of Veronica Mars is Sept. 28.
