Betty Boop Turns 75-A-Doop

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Betty Boop, the world’s oldest cartoon flapper, is still shaking her stuff even on her 75th birthday, which will be Monday (Aug. 8).

Boop first appeared on August 8, 1930, in the cartoon Dizzy Dishes, but as a canine. It wasn’t until one year later that she morphed into the curvaceous 1930s flapper.

Boop is also responsible for introducing Popeye when she pulled him up on stage to do the hula with her in a 1933 cartoon.

Despite being old enough to have the body of a grandmother, Frank Caruso, executive for King Features, which owns the rights to the character, says Betty’s appearance hasn’t changed much over the years.

And despite oozing sex appeal, Caruso says Boop has always been single.

But just because the gal is getting old doesn’t mean she’s slowing down. She still appears on slot machines at Bally’s casinos, on jukeboxes and was recently sculpted into a 3-D cake for Jessica Simpson’s 25th birthday party last month.
