‘Bad News Bears’ Female Phenom Bad News For Batters

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some actors need stand-ins for physical scenes but not Bad News Bears star Sammi Kane Kraft.

Kraft’s a preteen baseball phenom who did all her own stunts in the Billy Bob Thornton comedy opening Friday (Jul. 22).

Thornton figures she throws 75 miles an hours which, he points out “...is not bad for a 12-year-old girl.”

So far, Kraft hasn’t been able to use her craft on the mound as much as she’d like. Although she’s thrown no- hitters, she says coaches often bench her because, as she puts it, “they didn’t want me to outshine their sons.”

If Kraft’s budding film career doesn’t prevent her from pitching more, her Bad News Bears experience has given her some dangerous ammo: Thornton – a former high school pitcher himself – taught her to throw a knuckle curve.

Not everything about the duo’s relationship was perfect. Kraft says she and Thornton still argue over who is better: the New York Yankees or the St. Louis Cardinals.
