Cindy, Tammy Make For Bad Hurricane Names

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Cindy may make for a pretty girl’s name, but it’s horrible as the name for a hurricane.

That’s the word from naming expert Meredith Muncy, who doesn’t like that “Cindy,” has been chosen as one of this year’s hurricane names by the World Meteorological Society.

Muncy says it “sounds like it doesn’t have a mean bone in its body” while another name on this years’s list, “Tammy,” also gets low marks for being “too kind” and “wimpy-sounding.”

Instead, Muncy says hurricane names should reek of “toughness, wickedness and brutality” and she thinks naming the storms after Cruella De Ville or Hannibal Lecter would really get the attention of the public because the tough-sounding names wouldn’t make people underestimate the power of a hurricane.

While this year’s list includes some cream puffs, past hurricane names have hit the right chord. For instance, Muncy especially liked Frances because it reminded her of her mother- in-law, who was “feisty” and “a real force to reckoned with.”
