‘That ’70s Show’ Season Finale Goes To Pot

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The Fox sitcom That ’70s Show is finally going to pot on tomorrow’s season finale (May 18).

The episode features Red Foreman finally figuring out that the kids have been smoking marijuana in the basement for the last seven years and is the first to explicitly reference drug use by the characters.

Executive producer Dean Batali says previously the writers had a rule about weed references: “If you know what they’re doing, you know. If you don’t, we don’t have to tell you.”

He says the show’s trademark “360 riffs” – where the camera zips around to whoever isn’t smoking – came about to hide explicit drug references for the family hour.

Now that Red is clued in on what Eric and friends are doing on the show, Batali says the show will deal with pot more specifically but that the characters will be more likely to do it in secret.

Although the season finale marks Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher’s last appearances as regulars Batali says the show will go on at least one more year and jokes it could “go on longer if Ted McGinley joins the cast.”
