The series ends its 9th and final season on May 16, but Romano admits hes never liked the title and wishes we could go back in time and change it.
Romanos real-life brother, a narcotics officer, inspired the phrase because he would sarcastically utter the phrase whenever he compared his life to Rays.
As Romano puts it, He would say how people would shoot at him but everybody loves Raymond, and co- executive producer Phil Rosenthal picked up on it and lobbied to use it as a working title.
Other titles that were considered include That Raymond Guy; Just Raymond and Romanos personal favorite, Um, Raymond.
CBS president Les Moonves promised to change the title if the show cracked into the Top 10, but it took three years for that to happen and when it did, the prez said, Well, you cant change it now. Its been three years already.
