Melissa Cross has spent the last 15 years teaching rockers like Andrew W.K. and Melissa Auf der Maur how to scream their heads off without losing their voices.
Now, shes helping the average screaming Mimi by putting out a DVD called The Zen Of Screaming that takes the vocal techniques of proper singing and applies them to screaming.
She says the biggest mistake people make when screaming is tightening their vocal cords. She says the proper technique teaches vocal balance ...so the emotion comes out but your body doesnt tense up.
Cross claims her DVD can save the voice of any aspiring rock singer but admits the techniques can also help people who want to scream at a ballgame, a mosh pit or while riding a roller coaster.
In addition, she says her techniques can increase a persons vocal strength but insists balance, not volume, is the goal.
