Thats because a lot of the stuff will never appreciate in value, according to super collector Jeremy Beckett, whose Star Wars collection teeters around 7,000 items. Hes also the author of The Official Price Guide to Star Wars Memorabilia (Random House).
Beckett says wise collectors pick disposable items with the Star Wars logos like hamburger wrappers and Band-Aids because these are meant to be used and in a few years theyll be scarce.
He also says any freebie items are a good investment. They can appreciate a few dollars in a few years. However, toys that have a production flaw are a bad investment, because unlike misprinted coins, they dont go up in value.
Finally, Beckett predicts this years hottest toy with be Darth Tater: A Mr. Potato Head dressed as Darth Vader.
