Thats according to erotic dancer Catherine Rose, who teaches classes in pole dancing in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Rose says more women are pole dancing these days and some are making a career out of it. She estimates 20 percent of her students already work as dancers or are moving towards the career.
She says pole dancing used to be just associated with strippers, but now its gone mainstream with its appearance on Desperate Housewives giving its popularity an extra oomph.
Her curriculum for Pole Dancing 101 includes Holding Your Weight, Gyrating, Cleavage Show and Booty Show.
Rose says there are fitness advantages to the dancing, such as increasing upper body strength, but the occupational hazards include bruises, arm burns and pulled shoulder muscles.
