AOL Voice: ‘You’ve Got Typecast’

CLEVELAND, Ohio (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The man who says “You’ve Got Mail” for America Online now is trying to avoid hearing a different phrase: “You’ve got typecast.”

Voiceover artist Elwood Edwards has been the voice of AOL since 1989 and hopes to keep the job forever. But he’s finally speaking his peace: He can do other voices as well.

Edwards is hoping to get hired to do cartoon voices as well as narrating serious documentaries and other films. He’s even willing to help out the average joe by narrating home movies or recording answering machine messages.

Edwards wants to stretch his wings creatively but he is perfectly willing to record variations of his famous line, such as “You’ve got kale” at a grocery store, or “You’ve got married” during a wedding.

However, he won’t recite anything off-color so don’t ask him to say “You’ve got tail.”
