Thats the sobering news from humor consultant Malcolm Kushner, who annually puts out a Cost Of Laughing Index that monitors the prices of various laugh indicators.
The price for laughter in 2005 is up 2.6 percent from last year, in part because of a $316 increase in the price of a 30- minute sitcom script and a 10 percent increase in the price of admission to comedy clubs.
Kushner also says the cost for a singing telegram featuring a dancing chicken or pink gorilla has increased from $105 to $125.
There is some reason to chuckle. The cost for 12 rubber chickens is still only $51 and Whoopee cushions are a firm $5.40 per dozen.
Finally, a dozen Groucho glasses is still only $15.
