Thats according to former funeral director John Reigle, who says you can do a funeral right by having one like Ray Charless where the music was upbeat, lively and more of a celebration.
He says songs from Led Zeppelin and The Eagles usually ensure a memorable funeral, but admits the music selection always comes down to what the deceaseds family deems appropriate.
In many cases, that means traditional spiritual hymns or low- key band music. Case in point: Ronald Reagans funeral, which Reigle calls very sedate and boring.
Still, Reigle has admiration for the families that pick music that celebrates life and he puts the responsibility on funeral directors to steer the family in this direction.
More of Reigles funeral tips can be found in his new book, When Death Occurs (Consumer Advocate Press).
