Classical Music Soothes The Savage Postal Customer

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Customers rarely “go postal” at the mail station inside Maxsons Drugs in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Manager Natalia Monjoy has found a way to prevent the mail- related freak outs that often plague other post offices: She plays classical hits by Mozart, Beethoven and Strauss for her customers.

Monjoy says new artists like Joshua Bell and opera tenor Mario Frangoulis also get her clients in a happy mood, adding “people are up and people smile” when she plays the music.

She avoids hard rock and rap, which she says can stir things up. Monjoy used to work as a wedding caterer and says whenever there were rappers or rockers playing at the receptions, “at the end of the night people would be at each other’s throats.”

Even with the classical soundtrack, the post office still gets some cranky customers.

Still, Monjoy says, overall, the tunes “uplift my customers’ spirits and make them feel good.”
