Doggy Implants Raise Ears

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 17:22 GMT

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Droopy dog ears are getting a leg up.

Gregg Miller, the man behind Neuticles – testicle implants for neutered pups – is now venturing into doggy prosthetics for their upper-half.

He’s created “PermaStay Implants,” surgical mesh pieces designed to help dogs’ floppy ears stand up straight.

They’re inserted inside the ear by a veterinarian and after 10 to 12 days, a dog’s ears are able to perk up naturally.

Miller says pups don’t feel the implants at all, unlike “painful, barbaric” ear-fixing devices like wires and rods.

He says 20 percent of dogs including Boxers and Great Danes suffer from saggy ears that make them look “goofy,” which many owners can’t stand.

The ear implants have worked successfully on 21 test canines and Miller hopes they do as well as Neuticles, which now come in four different models including an “anatomically precise” set of testicles that boast “all the vains” of a real pair.
