Nameberry.com compiles popular baby names and has come up with monikers that ensure a little one grows up to be a full-fledged hipster.
In researching the most popular names in hipster cities like Brooklyn, New York, Santa Monica, California, and Austin, Texas, they’ve found that ultimate hip kids are all about irony.
Company co-founder Linda Rosenkrantz Finch explains, “They all have names that are deliberately unstylish or old fashioned. They become stylish because hip people like them.”
Names like Clementine, Matilda, Scarlett, Otis, Asher, and Rufus are ultimate hipster names, while names like Heather and Michelle “are so over” in the cool neighborhoods.
Finch adds, “Parents are projecting a fashionable image on their child with these names and hoping they’ll grow up to be hipsters.”
