Zombie Book Club Convenes

AUSTIN, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Move over, Oprah, there’s a much livelier book club in Austin, Texas.

Today (Oct. 13), the University Hills Branch of the Austin Public Library will host its annual Zombie Book Club meeting.

Club leader Billy McConnell says this year’s required reading is the graphic novel series, The Walking Dead.

He also recommends members read The Zombie Survival Guide (Three Rivers) and World War Z (Crown), so they can actively participate in discussions about zombies and surviving the Apocalypse.

McConnell says all club literature must accurately represent zombies without downplaying their flesh-eating habits.

He usually opts for “dark, gritty” reads, though he is considering adding a romantic zombie version of Pride & Prejudice.

After discussing the undead, members – some in zombie costumes – enjoy snacks like “brain cupcakes” and brain-shaped JELL-O molds.

They often attempt to recruit others for the club, since they convene during the library’s normal business hours.
