Diddy: ‘Give Me Hits, Not Gimmicks’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Music mogul P. Diddy prefers a hit song over a catchy gimmick from an artist any day.

The rapper and businessman of many names is looking for the next global superstar with his new reality show, P. Diddy’s StarMaker, airing Sundays on MTV.

Once a winner emerges, Diddy doesn’t want the newly signed Bad Boy artist to bring a nickname, catchphrase, or wacky style to the table – he wants them to bring a hit record.

Diddy says gimmicks aren’t nearly as important as topping the charts because, “Everything starts and stops with a song.”

Even before he coined his many nicknames, taglines, and styles, Diddy says he started his empire with a hit record – no gimmick necessary.

Puff says artists who “make the most noise” through their music get the real attention in the biz. Others, as catchy as they may seem, eventually fall by the wayside.
