Twitter: A Springboard For Stand-Up Comics

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Twitter is the hottest new stage for stand-up comedians to get their start.

Just ask Nick Douglas, avid Twitter user and editor of Twitter Wit: Brilliance In 140 Characters Or Less (!tbooks), out August 25.

According to Douglas, some of the funniest jokes he’s ever heard come in the form of Twitter updates, making the website a springboard for stand-up comics.

He says the short, 140-character online tweets force people to be creative and funny for their “instant audience.”

Douglas knows of many wannabe comedians who test out their jokes on Twitter prior to hitting the real stage. Some even write drafts of their tweets until they’re as hilarious as possible.

He says the more one tweets, the funnier they become, and since users try to “out-Twitter” each other all the time, practice is crucial.

His book highlights the best tweets out there including, “The bird of love is the dove. My husband thinks it’s the swallow.”
