Man Builds Trashy Cathedral

AUSTIN, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A pile of junk can be a religious experience.

Vince Hanneman has built himself a holy land on his property in Austin, Texas, with his Cathedral of Junk, an expansive area piled high with beat up bicycles, busted televisions, and other useless goods he’s found or had donated to him, which he’s molded into a church-like structure.

Hanneman says his crappy cathedral visitors – or his “flock” – get a sense of peace and hope while amongst the trash, which is like a “religious experience.”

He explains, “You re-connect with your inner child. That’s a sacred activity. I’m pretty sure that’s what Jesus told us to do. I’m paraphrasing, of course.”

Building the sacred dump was holy for Hanneman, who feels as though it’s his purpose in life to be the “pope” of the land.

He loves to welcome his “congregation” of tourists from around the world and plans to continue building up the cathedral.
