Though Lambert lost Idol in a surprising upset to Kris Allen last week, hes paved the way for theater geeks to be considered cool.
Lambert says that being theatrical is now a positive thing on the Idol stage and he hopes contestants continue to bring glam, flash, and jazz hands to rock in future seasons.
He attributes his flare for the dramatic to other theatrical performers like David Bowie, Madonna, and Michael Jackson, and says his glitzy style didnt just appeal to audiences, it appealed to Idol producers too.
Lambert says that the usually conservative bigwigs behind the show were game for trying all of his ideas from weird song arrangements and dramatic lighting to wardrobe choices and says he never felt stifled during the creative process on Idol.
He adds, No one tried to change me.
