Crap Television Honored Through Art

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The guilty pleasures we watch on TV make amazing art.

Los Angeles’ Gallery 1988 is celebrating its 5th anniversary by honoring television that rots the brain with their latest exhibition, Idiot Box, which opens on April 2.

The art show will feature paintings made by 100 artists depicting TV classics like Saved By The Bell, Small Wonder, ALF, and Fraggle Rock, and will be hosted by TV icon Dennis Haskins, who played Mr. Belding on Saved By The Bell.

For curator Jensen Karp, putting this show together was a dream come true.

He says, “We’re told these shows rot the brain but they’re more than just crap. They’ve become molds for pop culture and play a part in who we are as people. There’s a giddy nostalgia we’re trying to create with this art show.”

Through the exhibit, Karp hopes attendees recall how it felt to run home after school to watch their favorite shows, and plans on making Idiot Box an annual exhibition.
