Stadium Beer Vendor Sees Foul Things

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Beer and foul balls mean more to Yankees fans than their own kids.

In his book The Pope And Me At Yankee Stadium: My Life As The Beer Man & Stand-Up Comic (Lazarus), Steve Lazarus writes about his work as a beer vendor at Yankee Stadium, a job he’s had since 1977.

While other kids wanted to be doctors and lawyers, Lazarus says he always wanted to be a beer vendor.

He explains, “For me, it is the best job ever. I’m a big Yankees fan and you’re at every game and making money.”

Throughout the years, Lazarus has witnessed everything from couples having sex in their seats to angry fans throwing beer bottles at professional players, and recalls the weirdest thing he ever saw go down at the stadium.

He says, “This guy was holding his kid in one hand and a beer in the other, and a foul ball came his way. He drops his kid, catches the ball, but hangs on to the beer. I wish that wasn’t a true story, but it is.”
