Rob Garrett, a die-hard Elvis aficionado who saw the rock n roll legend in concert 23 times back in the 70s, says the world of Elvis impersonators lacks standards.
He runs a tribute artist company in Las Vegas that books Elvis look-a-likes for events and assures that his doppelgangers are the cream of the crop.
He has about 15 Elvis impersonators who are classified as either A Elvises or B Elvises, the former being top-notch, dead-ringers for The King, and the latter being good, solid budget Elvises.
Garrett insists he only hires guys who look and sound like Elvis and have his mannerisms down cold.
He laments that the popular Elvis industry in Sin City has really lowered its standards and most other companies will book any dude with sideburns and a lip curl.
With Elvis birthday coming up Thursday (Jan. 8), Garrett will be busy booking his guys for everything from singing Elvis telegrams to elaborate parties.
