Foul-Mouthed Crafts Are Pointedly Therapeutic

DALLAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Naughty needlepointing can be pointedly therapeutic.

Julie Jackson runs subversivecrossstitch.com, a website that sells needlepoint kits to stitchers who want to stick it to the man.

While the kits include old-timey, mundane motifs like birds, hearts, and flowers, the words on the patterns ain’t your grandma’s cross stitch.

Instead of trite messages like “God Bless Our Home,” Jackson’s patterns include crotchety sayings like “Happy Fing Holidays,” “Get The F Out my House, Btch,” and “Shut Your Whore Mouth.”

Jackson explains, “The more sweetness there is in the design, the more the foul words stand out.”

She gets inspiration for her patterns from everyday frustrations and rap lyrics, and says the crafts are therapeutic for anyone who’s fed up.

She thinks her patterns would’ve been useful for women back in the old days, when they weren’t allowed to join men- only conversations.

Jackson laughs, “Imagine yourself in that kind of Jane Austen scenario stitching, ‘Shut The F Up’ as the men talk. Pretty therapeutic.”

The kits run from $12 to $20.
